A1. [DR] There are many reasons why your vision may seem worse at night. At nighttime, the eye changes to allow for more light to come in, which can alter your prescription needs. Some people benefit from a separate pair of nighttime driving glasses. Others simply need to update their glasses with anti-reflective treatments. Other issues that can affect vision at night may be linked to eye health, such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, or other diseases of the eye. Your optometrist can help you find the right solution if you are experiencing problems with nighttime driving.
Q2. Are there specific lenses just for driving?
A2. [SMM] Yes.! There are many lens types available for seeing your best on the road such as anti-reflective lenses, Transitions® Light Intelligent lenses and even polarized sun lenses that are available in both prescription and non-prescription to help enhance your vision while on the road.
Q3. Should I wear sunglasses all year-round while behind the wheel?
A3. [DR] Yes. While most people only think to wear sunglasses in the summer, the sun is out all year round. In winter months, reflections off snow and ice can be bothersome and cause potential damage to your eyes.
